Is boron a metal?Boron powder does not belong to the metal family, and it is a solid that lacks many of the metal's characteristics. Boron has the lowest outermost electron count of any non-metallic. However, at temperatures above 2000 deg C boron will react with silicon, to produce silicon boride. At high temperatures, many metals and metal-oxides react with boron to form metal borids.
